The powerhouse V6 engines found onboard the NSX models are crafted by hand by master engineers at an Acura facility in Ohio. A whopping 4,000-square-foot manufacturing space has been dedicated to engine assembly, and each builder hand-starts the 547 bolts found in each NSX engine and also records each torque measurement.
hree electric motors and a mid-mounted, twin-turbo 3.5L V6 engine are key components of the NSX’s hybrid powertrain. The layout of these major systems and the car’s primary hybrid components has been optimized to lower the NSX’s center of gravity, centralize the car’s mass, and facilitate optimum handling.
Another component of the NSX’s powertrain is a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (9DCT), which comes standard. This innovative transmission starts with a launch gear (first gear), winds up with a cruising gear (ninth gear), and features a close ratio 7-speed gearbox in between them. Downshifting speedily and seamlessly, this transmission is an integral contributor to the dynamic performance achieved onboard the NSX.
Drivers will enjoy a high degree of flexibility onboard the Acura NSX thanks to the car’s Integrated Dynamics System. Four selectable modes let motorists choose the driving experience that fits their mood of the moment: Quiet, Sport, Sport+, and Track.
Taking a different approach from the first-generation NSX, the 2017 supercar truly enters the 21st century of driving with a hybrid powertrain. The sports hybrid power unit found onboard the new NSX produces an impressive 573 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque and takes the car to a breathless top track speed of 191 mph.
Among the many innovations exhibited in the 2017 NSX is its Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD). The first technology of its kind in the world of supercars, this system takes Acura’s SH-AWD technology to a whole new level, leveraging the constant distribution of electric motor torque to boost the NSX’s handling precision and cornering ability.
Sparkling Jewel Eye LED headlights with an auto-on/off feature greet onlookers as the NSX approaches. Twinkling like a priceless diamond necklace on a celebrity, these stunning lights are just one of the many luxury amenities drivers will discover onboard the NSX.
New design concepts and body construction are showcased onboard the NSX, including a multi-material space frame that uses a clean-sheet design and various advanced materials and technologies. A “total airflow management” design methodology has also given the NSX exceptional aerodynamics and simultaneously provides efficient cooling for the car’s powertrain components through 10 heat exchangers.
Among its aerodynamic-boosting amenities, the NSX features flush-mounted, automatic power pop-out door handles. These handles recede into the car’s doors when not in use and then pop out automatically when the driver approaches the NSX with the keyless entry fob.
Among the many prime comforts to be found in the NSX, drivers will enjoy premium interior amenities that include a dual-zone automatic climate control system with humidity control and air filtration. Drivers and passengers can each select their own ideal levels of comfort and leave arguments about temperature to the owners of less luxurious cars.
Every driver enjoys hearing the roar of their luxury vehicle’s engine, but in the NSX, that roar threatens to overpower even the most avid racing enthusiasts! To help mediate the sound that the NSX produces when pushed to its limits, the engineers at Acura have included an acoustic windshield as well as an acoustic rear-cabin window. For even more sonic control, NSX drivers can utilize this sports car’s Active Sound Control feature.
NSX drivers and passengers alike will enjoy supreme comfort in plush seats—whether they’re on the racetrack, taking a short trip across town, or road-tripping across the country. Milano leather seats are standard, and semi-aniline leather is available. Owners can also upgrade to heated, four-way power-adjustable seats with power lumbar and two-position driver memory.
Convenient access to the NSX’s audio system, cruise control, in-vehicle phone functions, and more is provided through the car’s illuminated steering wheel–mounted controls. Access the functions you need most with reduced need to take your eyes off the road in order to do it.
NSX drivers can choose between two high-quality sound systems onboard their decked-out supercar: a standard eight-speaker audio system or an available nine-speaker ELS Studio Premium Audio system, each featuring a subwoofer. Whichever one you opt for, you can access its features via the steering wheel–mounted controls and a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen.
Drivers can also stay supremely connected onboard the NSX thanks to amenities like its two standard USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Keep in touch even when you’re on the road and don’t miss a moment of the goings-on in your world.
The NSX comes equipped with advanced Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control. This system proactively reduces or prevents traction loss before it occurs and also helps boost stability and mitigate dangerous oversteer and understeer when the car is cornering. Additionally, engine output is regulated and braking power applied to help the NSX maintain traction on slippery road surfaces.
Drivers can also avoid the danger and damage that can result from low tires thanks to the NSX’s tire pressure monitoring system with location and pressure indicators. If one of the car’s tires starts losing air, the TPMS warns the driver and also delivers information regarding which tire has been affected. And since the NSX is a race-ready car and track driving necessitates elevated tire pressure, the TPMS additionally has different warning thresholds for driving at both low and high speeds.
Another standard driver-assist feature found onboard the NSX is its electronic cruise control system. Drivers can prevent speeding or dipping below the speed limit by inputting a set traveling speed, which the cruise control system maintains until the driver either applies brake pressure or turns off the cruise control.
The NSX’s available Technology Package includes corner and backup sensors. Front and rear parking sensors employ ultrasonic waves to scan for obstacles and their nearness to the car, while the corner sensors deliver audible alerts to the driver when obstacles are detected.
Additional parking help is also given by the NSX’s multi-angle rearview with dynamic guidelines. When the car is shifted into reverse, this system automatically delivers real-time images of the area behind the car on the Display Audio screen. Three views are available: normal, wide-angle, and top-down.
An advanced airbag system further provides prime protection onboard the NSX. This system includes single-stage driver and dual-stage passenger multiple-threshold front airbags, front side airbags, a driver knee airbag, and side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor.
